Fabric Spotlight: Premium Rayon Ponte
Ponte knit is a staple in the sewing world, but fiber content of this fabric can greatly influence its quality. Today, we are shining a spotlight on our new Premium Rayon Ponte and sharing how it will work for so many great fall projects.
Fabric Composition
LA Finch Fabrics will always bring you the best of the LA Fashion District, and our fall 2024 pontes are no exception. Many pontes out there are made from polyester, which is not breathable. Our ponte is 68% rayon, 29% nylon, and 3% spandex.
The rayon ensures the fabric is soft, breathable, and a renewable fiber. The high nylon content increases durability. The spandex gives you excellent recoverability.
Stretch
This batch of ponte has a horizontal stretch of 60%, and a vertical stretch of 25%. With such a high stretch percentage in both directions, you can make tight-fitting garments or loose ones. The rayon will give good drape regardless. Always check the recommended stretch percentage of your fabric.
Opacity
Our ponte is all dark colors, perfect for fall sewing, and they are opaque.
Fabric Care
Rayon is more delicate when wet, so take care while washing. We recommend a cold delicate wash and air dry.
Rayon does not like heat. Take care to use a pressing cloth and low iron when working with this fabric to prevent shine spots.
Project Ideas
Rayon ponte is the best fabric for secret pajamas! You will look polished and put together but feel comfortable. We recommend patterns for knit dresses, blazers, skirts, and more.
